Conceived during residency at Otra Vox in Spring 2021, In Color: Spectral Meditations for Healing is a portfolio containing seven full scale reproductions of monoprints by artist Cheryl Humphreys. The series presents all seven colors of the visible spectrum as visual aids for meditation.

Created as an experiential guide, the reproductions come folded with a key summarizing how each color affects our minds, moods and make-up. Humphreys invites the viewer to deepen their awareness of color and suggests its use to re-establish balance in the body, mind and spirit.

Each reproduction undulates, emits and pulses through softly rolled gradients of color, its motif a signifier of the potential energy encapsulated inside.

Hang and frame for daily doses or keep safe on the book shelf for that next trip to the desert.

Queer Art

QUEER|ART was launched in 2009 to support a generation of LGBTQ+ artists that lost mentors to the AIDS Crisis of the 1980s. By fostering the confident expression of LGBTQ+ artists’ perspectives, stories, and identities, Queer|Art amplifies the voice of a population that has been historically suppressed, disenfranchised, and often overlooked by traditional institutional and economic support systems.

About the Artist

Humphreys’ practice has long explored the delicate relationship between object and viewer. From the subtlety of her blind embossed works, to the micro textural detail of her dyed and inked pieces, Humphreys’ prints beg to be viewed up close. To be stared into. With these prints, she attempts to pull the viewer’s focus even further into her world through the dynamic use of color as meditation.
